We want to make sure our residents are ready for their next opportunity, so the staff at Canvas has taken some time to put together a list of tips and tricks you can use to make your resume stand out and ace your next job interview.


It’s hard to say what’s more important — your resume or your interview. On one hand, the interview is often the final step before securing the job. On the other hand, you’ll never get to the interview stage if you’re resume is tailored to impress whoever’s reading it. We couldn’t decide which one was more important, so we decided to give y’all advice on both! Without further ado, let’s take a look at the post below. TIp #1 — Keep a master resume and pull from it


If you have a long work history, keep everything in one document that you can then pull from to make your resume for each application. The master document can have all the jobs you’ve previously had, as well as all your roles and responsibilities for those jobs. When you need to apply for a new gig, just pull the relevant info from that master document to make your customized resume!


Tip #2 — Check the company’s social media pages


It’s expected that you’ll visit the company’s website to research the position before you go in for your interview, but you can often learn a lot more about the company by visiting its social media pages. The social pages are more up to date, so you might be able to bring up topics during the interview that are relevant (right now) to whoever’s interviewing you. If you go on the company’s LinkedIn, you can even see profiles of people who work there. Try to find someone who has the same position that you’re applying for, and see how they describe the position. That might give you some insight into what to expect in your new role!


Tip #3 — Remember to try to close the deal


A job interview is kind of like a sales pitch, except you’re the product that you’re selling. At the end of the interview — or near the end — try to ask specific questions about the next steps. You want to remind the interview that you’re here to secure a job — not just answer questions for an hour. You can also do this in your thank you note — which you should always send, by the way. Finish your note with a question about next steps, or tell the interviewer that you’re looking forward to hearing from them soon about your candidacy.
