Failure of your company is not failure in life. Failure in your relationships is.” — Ev Williams, Twitter Founder

Take it from the founder of Twitter himself; your personal relationships are more important than your business ventures. Yes, we all need money to survive. Yes, it feels great to be successful at work. No, those two things aren’t more important than your relationships with family and friends. If a business fails, you can pick up the pieces and try again tomorrow. If a relationship fails, it’s much harder to make things right. Keep this in mind next time you’re trying to decide between coming home to your apartments on William Cannon or staying late at the office to finish that project.

You can’t have everything you want, but you can have the things that really matter to you. – Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO

There’s a myth that if we work hard enough, we can have everything in life. We’re told that through hard work, we can achieve our goals having the perfect house, the ideal car and the amazing relationships. The truth is, it’s almost impossible to have everything in life, no matter how hard you work. If you decide what really matters to you, however, you can decide to put your energy towards those things. If you try to do everything and have it all, you’ll get burnt out. If you focus on the things that matter most, however, you’ll be much more likely to accomplish your goals.

We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.” — Michelle Obama, Former First Lady

If you’ve got a to-do list handy, take a look at it right now. Are there any activities on that list that will help you be a happier, healthier person? Is, “go to the gym” on the to-do list, or is it all errands and work? It’s important to remember that you’re never going to get anything done if you don’t take care of your own needs first. Only after you take care of yourself can you begin to take care of the projects at work, the chores at home

“You don’t have to make yourself miserable to be successful.” — Andrew Wilkinson, MetaLab Founder

When you think of an entrepreneur, you probably think of someone who spent long nights in coffee shops, working on their idea so that it could become a reality. You might think of someone who lost sleep, or lived on a friend’s couch for awhile so they could make ends meet. The truth is, you don’t have to put yourself through hard times just so you can be successful. If you work smarter — not harder — you can achieve success without suffering.
